Foundations is the starting program of Growth Pathways, and it is where an orthopedic medical device sales representative is built from the ground up. Before anyone can sell orthopedic technology with credibility, they have to understand the world it lives in: the operation behind every case, the language of medicine, the anatomy of the body, the surgeries the products are made for, and the images surgeons think in.
It is deliberately sequenced so that each subject prepares the next. A representative learns the language, then the body, then how to read the body on film, then what surgeons do with it, then the products and the sale. Foundations does not ask new talent to sink or swim. It gives them a path.
Week 04 · Medical terminology as a system
Planned and organized
Foundations is a structured sixteen-week journey, not a pile of materials to work through alone. It is organized into clear phases, each with its focus, its activities, and its purpose, so a representative always knows what they are learning today, what they are completing this week, and where it all leads.
Tracking progress and achievement. Every representative can see their progress at any moment: the courses completed, the competencies developing, the milestones reached, and what comes next. Achievement is demonstrated, verified, and recorded, so that reaching the end of Foundations means something real.
What a representative masters
From the operation behind the sale to reading an x-ray.
These are the key elements, in the order a representative learns them. Each one prepares the next.
01
Operations and the sale
Learn how a case is truly supported, from inventory and logistics to receiving, sourcing, and picking, and why the sale rests on the operation.
02
Medical terminology
Command the language of medicine as a system, so you can decode and use any term the Surgical Suite throws at you.
03
Musculoskeletal anatomy
Build a working knowledge of bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles, region by region.
04
The world of orthopedics
Understand how the field is organized and how care moves from diagnosis to surgery to recovery.
05
Orthopedics specialties
Meet the orthopedic surgeon and the specialties, from joint reconstruction and sports medicine to trauma, foot and ankle, and upper extremity.
06
Key surgical procedures
Follow the principal procedures in each specialty step by step, and connect the anatomy to the implant on the table.
07
Building strong habits
Developing strong habits and rituals that reinforce positive learning and practice patterns.
08
Reading x-rays
Learn to orient and read a musculoskeletal x-ray and connect what you see to the procedure and product.
The Foundations courses
Nine courses, in the order they are taken.
Every course lives on Growth Pathways Academy with an introductory video, modules, and tools you keep. From Course 02 on, every module ends in a graded quiz and every course in a capstone with mentor sign-off. Your progress through each one appears on your Foundations dashboard as you work.
No. Foundations is built so that a capable professional who may have started with no clinical background can, by the end, follow a case intelligently, speak credibly with a surgeon, and earn their place on the team.
Every sale rests on an operation. A representative rotates through these functions and learns the relationship firsthand. Understanding the operation early builds respect for the whole team and makes a representative genuinely useful from their first weeks, long before they carry a bag of their own.
Achievement is not a matter of attendance. It is demonstrated, verified, and recorded. The representative always knows exactly where they stand and what to focus on, and the mentor sees the same picture and can step in early when support is needed.
A representative moves into Essentials, where broad understanding becomes deep, segment-specific mastery and where that mastery is verified by a credentialing panel.
